Home organisation may sound daunting, but having a clean bedroom can really boost your overall mood and make you feel more organised. Here’s our guide on how to tame the mess, and utilise your space effectively.
If you don’t use it, lose it
De-cluttering is an unending art form. By nature we cling on to things, whether that be due to sentimentality, or the dwindling hope that one day they just might become useful to us. In order to maximise the space around you, you’ll need to make sure it’s being used effectively, which means getting rid of all things that aren’t needed, loved, or usable. Gather up your thrifted ski jackets, ill-fitting shoes and posters that have never quite made it up onto the wall, and take them to a recycling centre or charity shop. When you return, you’ll be amazed at how much storage and space you have in your room.
Get creative with your storage
Once you’ve tackled the mess, it’s time to get storing. Luckily for you, all of our rooms come with ample closet space, so invest in a few closet organisers, like shoe racks and storage boxes, or even hang hooks on the back of your door for all your bags and jackets. There is also copious storage space where you least expect it: under your bed can be great for hiding linen and sheets that would otherwise take up a lot of room. If you still find your drawers overflowing, our apartments come with a storage room next to your patio or balcony. This space is definitely big enough for you to share with all your roommates, so anything that doesn’t need to be in your bedroom can live here.
Keep your cleaning frequent
By now you’re probably surprised at how much floor space you actually have. It’s important to remember how great your room looks at this moment, and uphold it to a similar standard. When you’re busy its easy for it to slip back into a state of chaos. Excess and clutter are organisation’s nemesis, so make sure to regularly take a little time to clean up around you. Our apartments come with their own washer and dryer, so dirty laundry can be done quickly to avoid it building up. Even small things, such as making your bed every morning, will prevent clothes from piling up at the end of it, and create the impression of a tidy room.
Personalize it
Now your room is tidy, airy and spacious, there’s no stopping you. Adding details to your décor can be a great way to give your room a personal touch, and maintain its cleanliness. Mirrors are a great way to open up and enhance a room, as you can create the illusion of more space. Small details such as untangling your jewellery and displaying it on a stand, or even hanging it from a door, will help subtly transform your room into a fresh, well-ordered space that serves as your homely, tranquil haven.
